第二天凌晨，道士把王七叫去，给他一把斧子，叫他随徒弟们一道进山砍柴。王七恭恭敬敬地听从师父吩咐，随大家进山去砍柴。就这样过了一个多月，王七的手脚都磨出了厚厚的茧子。他实在忍受不住了，便暗地产生了回家的念头。
